Would you believe me if I said I was Chinese? I know it's hard to believe with my brown curly hair and tan skin but I really am Chinese! I have been spending the past few years exploring Chinese culture to further connect to my family despite residing far away from our point of origin.

Shanghai; Pagoda

Shanghai, China and Chinese culture in general plays an important role in my family. Lunar new year, chinese zodiacs, lantern festivals, and dragon boat festivals all play a part in Chinese culture, which brings my family together. For example, although my family is not buddhist, Chinese temples or pagodas play an important role in Chinese culture with their striking architecture, especially at night!

To the left is an image of a pagoda in Shanghai! Pagodas are mulit-story structures that originated in India and were originally built to store ancient relics of the Buddha and sacred texts. They have evolved architectually, moving from their original material, which was wood, to more durable and long lasting materials, brick, stone, glazed tile.
